James Kennedy Brings “Dome of Doom” to The Mighty Twig this Friday!

Evanston, Ill. (April 17, 2012) — Evanston Public Library Friends’ The Mighty Twig welcomes The Order of Odd-Fish author James Kennedy for an interactive, fast-paced evening of performance, writing, dueling, and fantastical fun, for kids ages 10 and up, on Friday, April 20, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at its book and internet outpost at 900 Chicago Ave., in Evanston.  Attendees of this parent-free event can expect to find free books, fun and food, generously donated by Whole Foods. The public is invited, there is no registration necessary and no cost to attend.

After Kennedy performs scenes from his book, kids will invent mythological monster-gods, learn how to write terrifying smackdowns and challenges, and perform them in fighting-dancing duels to raucous battle music. Cheryl Chamberlain, the event organizer, says of Kennedy, “He has an incredible ability to bring out the creativity in all types of kids while developing a love of words for everyone.” She added, “Sharing the love of literature in a community setting with kids, connection and fun is a hallmark of The Mighty Twig.”

Here’s what critics are saying about The Order of Odd-Fish:  “Rollicking fantasy on the grand scale.”Smithsonian magazine…“A work of mischievous imagination and outrageous invention.” Time Out Chicago…“Over the top? Yes…Fantasy done to a clever, grotesque, non-sensical turn.” Chicago Sun-Times
