For Immediate Release: Northwestern University Sex Week

April 9-14th

Evanston, Illi. - As university “Sex Weeks” gain attention and increasingly garner scrutiny, Northwestern University College Feminists prepares to launch its sixth annual Sex Week, running from April 9th-14th. A veteran of the sometimes contentious Sex Week phenomenon, Northwestern is proud  to continue its tradition of provocative, relevant, and engaging programming. This Sex Week will feature its most diverse, provocative set of events yet, hosting everything from professors on homosexuality research to the founding editor of Bitch Magazine, from workshops on feminism and female submission in BDSM culture, to a lecture on gender and sexuality in webcomics.

“Given how polemic conversations around sex have become in recent months here in America, it’s no wonder Sex Weeks have come under fire. In reality, Sex Week strives to be a safe, inclusive place for people of all practices to analyze and discuss their wants, thoughts and desires,” says co-chair Kelsey Sheridan.

Sex Week aims to incorporate women, LGBTQ people and people of marginalized sexual identities into the sex conversation and encourage empowered, informed personal decisions.

“Conversations like the ones we’ll be having during Sex Week open the door for greater understanding and acceptance and by presenting these really important topics in a smart, sensitive, and entertaining way, we hope to reach our campus community and beyond,”  says Sex Week co-chair Amanda Mather. “Sex Week has a unique ability to host this dialogue, as a religiously and politically unaffiliated group. We aren’t afraid to present something contentious and we always seek to provide relevant, and engaging content with something that appeals to everyone.”

All Sex Week events are open to the public and admission is free unless otherwise noted. The full schedule of events (attached) and more information about Northwestern’s Sex week can be found at www.northwesternsexweek.com.
