Services To Be Held For Mrs. Carmelita Jean-Paul

The following is a notice from the Haitian Congress to Fortify Haiti:
Mrs. Jean-Paul, a native of La Vallée de Jacmel, was a pioneer in the Haitian community in Chicago who migrated to the U.S. in the early 1960's and settled in Evanston, IL, with her family. She was, possibly the first Haitian-American woman business owner who opened a beauty shop (Carmelita's Coiffure) in the area in the early 1970's in the area serving the Haitian community here. Mrs. Jean-Paul is survived by her husband Pierre Jean-Paul (JP Limo Service), two daughters, five sons, grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her beloved sister Louise Lauture (Judge Jean-Baptiste's mother), several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Jean-Paul is also survived by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Lionel Jean-Baptiste, former alderman of Evanston's second ward.
