Youth Job Center Prepares to Host Annual Spring Job Fair
(Evanston, Ill.) The Youth Job Center of Evanston is preparing to host its annual Spring Job Fair on March 10 from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Evanston Public Library. The job fair will offer local job seekers ages 16 and above the opportunity to meet with currently hiring employers. Confirmed employers include Comcast, Levy Security, Lowe’s, Old Navy, Ridgeville Park District, US Cellular, CJE Senior Life and more.
The Spring Job Fair comes at a critical time for Chicago-area job seekers. The Chicago unemployment rate was 10.6 percent in December and has consistently been higher than the national rate. Though the national unemployment rate has since begun to drop, the number of teens employed in Chicago is at an all-time low.
More than 500 candidates attended the YJC’s Fall Job Fair in 2010. YJC Employer Outreach Coordinator Jordan Burghardt says she expects this fair to draw as many or more job seekers looking for relief during this difficult economic time. By providing a job fair with access to quality employers who are ready to hire and individuals who are equipped to work, we are hoping to benefit both parties with our services during this crucial time
“With the economy on the mend, now more than ever increasing numbers of teenagers and young adults are in need of assistance in finding work. By providing a job fair with access to quality employers who are ready to hire and individuals who are equipped to work, we are hoping to benefit both parties with our services during this crucial time. The job fair is free and open to the public; this is a great way for employers to get a diverse pool of jobseekers for their entry level positions, summer camps, and seasonal hires.”
Employers must be currently hiring in order to attend the YJC job fair. Employers will represent industries such as retail, staffing, healthcare and shipping with applications for both seasonal and permanent positions.
Resumes and professional dress are strongly recommended. Job-seekers should arrive no later than 3:30 pm to allow enough time to meet with employers. The fair is free to all participants.
The Youth Job Center is a nonprofit agency in Evanston that assists job seekers ages 14-25 in finding employment. The YJC also works employers to help them meet their staffing needs by referring applicants who are trained in basic job skills and ready to get to work.
