Community Corner

A Community of Action

Evanston residents organize, educate and empower in the fight against homelessness.

When with parents of children she helps every day, she took a leap of faith.

She needn't have worried.

The Washington School community (where Clark works as a crossing guard) is working to help her and her family avoid homelessness, and they've also organized an event which affords the greater Evanston community a chance to help others facing similar circumstances.

The Potluck Fundraiser for Deb is scheduled for Friday, November 12 from 6-8pm in Lake Street Church's MacLeish Hall.  The Jeff Libman Trio (Jeff Libman, Brad Cole and Jordi Kleiner) will play live music for free.  Children are most welcome and a children's craft table will be available.  Bring a dish to share.  Donations are most welcome.

Prior to the potluck and entertainment, anyone -- including children -- can tour and visit Hilda's Place (a transitional shelter operated by Connections for the Homeless) in the basement level of Lake Street Church.  Folks can learn about the full scope of Connection's efforts to alleviate and end homelessness on one of two tours, 5-5:30pm or  5:30-6pm.  Residents of Hilda's Place will enter for the evening promptly at 6pm.  Contact Kim Yee at yeehaab@att.net to indicate your interest in visiting Hilda's Place.
