All Four NorthShore University HealthSystem Hospitals Earn Top Marks For Safety
The Leapfrog Group gave the Glenbrook, Evanston, Skokie and Highland Park hospitals straight A's, the highest possible scores, in a new rating system.
NorthShore University HealthSystem hospitals in Evanston, Glenview, Highland Park and Skokie earned A grades in The Leapfrog Group’s semi-annual hospital safety reviews for the second time since last spring, according to a press release from the hospitals.
“These grades reflect the incredible work of our physicians and staff to make high-quality care and patient safety a priority at all four of our hospitals,” Ken Anderson, chief medical quality officer at NorthShore said in the release. “It’s what NorthShore University HealthSystem strives for each day, and we’re proud that all of our hospitals were able to maintain the ‘A’ grade.”
According ot the release, only 30 percent of studied hospitalsreceived A grades during the fall period.
The Leapfrog Group is a national organization founded in 2000 that leverages large health care purchases to encourage improvements in the safety, quality, and affordability of American health care.
“Leapfrog is unbiased in telling the whole truth about how hospitals are doing, no matter how much discomfort that causes many of them,” Keith Reissaus, board chair of The Leapfrog Group said in the press release. ”Consumers deserve ‘A’ hospitals and someday we may see all hospitals earning ‘A's.’ However, we are not there yet."
The Hospital Safety Scores are calculated using 26 measures of publicly hospital safety data, and the resulting letter grade represents a hospital’s overall success in keeping patients safe from infections, injuries and medical errors.
