Bop 'N Grill To Get Spotlight on Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives

Based in Evanston and Rogers Park, the burger and Korean rice spot Bop ‘N Grill is poised on the cusp of fame.

After Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives host Guy Fieri visited the Rogers Park restaurant March 12, an episode on the eatery could air any week. Store employees were told the show would air within two to four months of filming. 

“We don’t have the date just yet, but if people follow us on Facebook, we’ll let you know,” says general manager Amber Schwartz.

Owner William Song opened the restaurant’s first location in Evanston, at the corner of Church and Dodge, about three years ago. The hole in the wall shop sells Korean-style favorites like teriyaki barbecue chicken, panko breaded fish and bi bim bop (hence the “bop” in the restaurant’s name) as well as some very creative burgers. The “porker,” for example, comes with soy-braised carnitas, while the “kimchi” includes kimchi, bacon and fried egg.

Fieri visited the restaurant’s Rogers Park location, on Sheridan road by Loyola, and ordered three items. Two are on the menu every day, while one was a special, Schwartz said. 

So what did he eat? 

“You’ll have to watch the show to find out!” she says.
