Central Street Cafe Closes; Business For Sale

Evanston’s Central Street Cafe closed its doors for good last weekend, and the business is up for sale, according to Mitchell Dulin, the former owner and leaseholder of the property.

Sunday was the last day of business for the restaurant at 2800 Central St., which opened in the summer of 2011. The restaurant had a bistro-style café and a selection of wine and cheeses for retail sale, among other offerings. 

Dulin said he owned and operated the business from August 2011 until he sold it to new owners and operators in October 2012. The new owners and operators closed the business last weekend, he said.

He is currently opening another restaurant in Wilmette, called The Avenue. The 9,000 square-foot restaurant is expected to open by Memorial Day Weekend at 1144 Wilmette Ave., according to the Chicago Tribune. A menu posted in the window includes such dishes as New York strip steak, seafood ravioli with lobster-chive sauce and an extensive wine and craft beer selection. 

Dulin still holds the lease on the property at 2800 Central St., and said he has not yet decided what to do with the space.
