Condo Association Sues Resident Over Bedbug Infestation

The Maisonette Condominium Association, at 2000 Sherman Ave., filed suit against the owner of a unit, alleging that he refused treatment for a serious bedbug infestation, the 'Chicago Tribune' reports.

An Evanston condominium association filed suit against a unit owner Tuesday, alleging that he blocked attempts to treat a severe infestation in his unit, the Chicago Tribune reports

The Maisonette Condominium Association, in the 2000 block of Sherman Avenue, hired an exterminator to treat a severe infestation in the building in September 2011, according to the Tribune. The exterminator treated each unit, including that of James Collins, who had a particularly severe infestation, the Tribune reports.

But when the exterminator came back to check that the treatment had worked, Collins’ apartment was still infested with bugs, and the owner’s association alleges that he did not return multiple messages requesting to treat his unit again, according to the Tribune. The association is now asking a judge to grant an injunction to treat his unit, the Tribune reports.
