Evanston Wins "Green" Competition

Evanston beat out Skokie, Des Plaines, and Arlington Heights in an energy saving contest.

The City of Evanston was recently awarded a prize of 10,000 Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs after being named the winner of the CUB Energy Saver Community Competition.

According to the city, CUBEnergySaver.com is the nation's first free online service that helps households save on their power bills and rewards families with incentives like gift cards and movie tickets.

Evanston went up against numerous Illinois communities in the energy efficiency competition and won a solid first place with about 330 residents participating -- the most out of any other city -- and $6,542 total in energy savings.

Wheaton came in second place for participation with 193 residents in the competition, and Logan Square/Bucktown came in second place for the saving contest, with a total of $4,645 in energy savings.
