Metra Train Hits Man
Metra train strikes man as it pulls into Central Street station.
A Metra train hit a 36-year-old man at the Central Street Station on Feb. 13 at 7:07 p.m. According to police commander Tom Guenther, witnesses said his actions looked very deliberate.
Witnesses said the man positioned himself on the Metra track and that he was struck by train 815, as it pulled into the station. A witness, Clif Brown, said he knew something was wrong when "the train approached the station with a long continuous blast of the horn."
Brown shot a video of the scene, which shows Evanston firefighters tending to the man and positioning him on a gurney. “The man was then transported to a local hospital and remains hospitalized at this time,” Guenther said. He survived the accident and was alive when he arrived at the hospital but Guenther is not aware of his current condition.
According to Metra, the accident caused delays that lasted for more than an hour.
