Police Arrest Suspect in Recent Homicide

Police have arrested a man they say is connected with the recent shooting at Smitty's Garage.

The Evanston Police Department has charged an Evanston man, John Anthony Bamberg Jr., with murdering 23-year-old Marcus T. Davis by approaching his car and shooting him as he pulled out of Smitty's Garage on Sept. 30.

Evanston Police investigators, working with assistance from United States Federal Marshals and the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force carried out a warrant for Bamberg's arrest on Oct. 7 and found the man in South Chicago Heights, according to a police statement.

Bamberg has been charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder, a charge that pertains to a woman who was sitting in the passenger seat of Davis' car at the time of the shooting.

Bamberg was denied bail Monday morning during a trial hearing at the District II courthouse in Skokie and will remain incarcerated, the statement read. Bamberg's next court date is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 9:00 a.m. in room 106.
