Police Blotter Aug. 16: Woman Punched on Pace Bus; Man Destroys Laptop in Argument
A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.
The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Battery
A woman in her 50s went into the senior center on the 800 block of Dodge Avenue at 9:25 a.m. on Aug. 15 and said she'd been hit in the head by another woman on a Pace bus. She was given an ice pack for a bump on her forehead.
Vandalism
A man allegedly smashed his girlfriend's computer after she asked him to leave her apartment on Monday morning. William J. Ratliff, 26, of Chicago was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue. The Dell laptop computer was valued at $400. His court date is set for Aug. 24.
Burglary
A burglar broke the glass on a door to enter an apartment and stole a white Sony laptop computer between noon on Aug. 12 and 3 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 2300 block of Ridge Avenue.
A burglar tried to break into a house by slashing a window screen and prying open a second kitchen window between 10 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 6:33 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1300 block of Madison Street. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-6 and 145 pounds.
A burglar broke the door of a garage between 9 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 6:45 a.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1700 block of Leland Avenue. Nothing was missing.
Someone broke out the window of a 1994 Mazda between 8 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 2200 block of Madison Place. Nothing was missing.
Theft
A Toshiba laptop computer and costume jewelry were stolen from an apartment on the 300 block of Custer Avenue between 7:55 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15.
A blue women's 15-speed Schwinn bicycle and a maroon Schwinn Stingray bicycle were stolen between 2 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 15 on the 2200 block of Maple Avenue. Both bikes were locked in an apartment common area.
A locked Gary Fisher Tiburon bicycle was stolen overnight on Aug. 14 on the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Dempster Street.
A custom-made bicycle was stolen from a storage area at 5:21 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1700 block of Oak Avenue.
A locked Schwinn bicycle was reported stolen off a rack at 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1600 block of Benson Avenue.
A Cannondale M600 bicycle was stolen out of a lawn on the 1300 block of Madison Street between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Aug. 10.
Domestic Battery
A 25-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 14 on the 700 block of Reba Place. Her court date is set for Aug. 17.
A 46-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 4:05 a.m. on Aug. 14 on the 1600 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Aug. 24.
Disturbing the Peace
Samuel Abonce, 21, of Evanston; Andy G. Maldonado, 20, of Evanston; and Hugo Sierra, 21, of Evanston were arrested and charged with disturbing the peace at 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1800 block of Dempster Street. Their court date is set for Sept. 2.
Arrest Warrant
David B. Beverly, 24, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 6:55 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue.
Shalone N. Brewton, 41, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 11 on the 1900 block of Green Bay Road. Her court date is set for Aug. 24.
Deshawn M. Lewis, 33, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 10:35 p.m. on the corner of Howard Street and North Hoyne Avenue.
Darian L. Maltee, 30, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 11:41 p.m. on Aug. 10 on the 2400 block of Dempster Street.
Carl D. Massie, 51, of Evanston was arrested on a pair of warrants at 8:07 p.m. on Aug. 10 on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue.
Don A. McKenzie, 20, of Skokie was arrested on a warrant at 7:29 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 4600 block of Davis Street in Skokie. His court date is set for Sept. 13.
Gerald C. Richardson, 29, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 11 on the 1900 block of Jackson Street.
Driving without a License
Roberto C. Colin, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:47 p.m. on Aug. 14 on the corner of Church Street and Benson Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 15.
Areli Fuentes-Garcia, 25, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:54 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1800 block of Howard Street. Her court date is set for Sept. 8.
Michaele J. Jefferies, 25, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:50 a.m. on Aug. 15 on the 800 block of Howard Street. Her court date is set for Sept. 6.
Marijuana Possession
Kelly J. Chong, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 9:09 p.m. on Aug. 14 on the 800 block of Sheridan Road. Kathleen A. Alfredson, 19, of Skokie was arrested with Chong and charged with underage consumption. Their court date is set for Sept. 2.
Dajuan Vaughter, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 11:05 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 1300 block of Fowler Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 31.
