Police say they chased and ultimately arrested a 20-year-old Evanston man who fled the scene of a robbery on foot, running along the elevated CTA and Metra tracks Thursday afternoon.
Richard D. Tharpe, 20, of the 1500 block of Simpson Street in Evanston, was arrested and charged with one count of robbery, a felony.
Police were called to the South Boulevard CTA station around 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, for a reported robbery. A 19-year-old Evanston man said that someone had tried to punch him several times, then took his money and iPhone and ran away, according to police.
When police checked the area, they found Tharpe, who matched the description given by the teen, according to police. Tharpe took off on foot, and ran along the elevated tracks as police chased him on foot. Eventually, police found him hiding in the garage of a home in the 600 block of Callan Avenue, according to police.
Officers recovered the victim’s cell phone, but were unable to find his money, police said.
Tharpe is set to appear in Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie at 9 a.m. Jan. 10, 2013.
