Police Investigate Death of Man Found on Benson Avenue

are investigating the death of a man who was found lying on the sidewalk at Davis Street and Benson Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Around 3:30 a.m. on the Fourth of July, police were called to the intersection after a witness reported a man on the ground, Evanston Police Cmdr. Perry Polinski said in a statement released by the department.

A witness who had been waiting for a bus at the Davis Street El Station told police the man had jumped from the roof of the Sherman Plaza Parking Garage, Polinski said in the statement. Police are investigating the death as a potential suicide.

The man's identity is being withheld while police notify his family, according to Polinski's statement.

paramedics also responded to the scene. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office will be reviewing the incident Thursday morning.
