World of Beer is set for a grand opening downtown on Tuesday, Jan. 22, while a new wine store is already open on Davis Street. Read on for more business openings and closings.
World Of Beers Opening Today
The bar and restaurant is set to host its grand opening at 1601 Sherman Ave. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, according to the World of Beer website. Owner Ted Mavrakis worked out a deal to open a franchise of the national chain in the Fountain Square building after a failed attempt to bring in the Hooter’s-like restaurant Tilted Kilt. The 5,800-square-foot spot will offer more than 50 varieties on tap, with a focus on craft brews.
Chicago’s Home of Chicken And Waffles Coming Soon on Dempster
Chicago’s Home of Chicken and Waffles will open in the next couple of weeks at 2424 Dempster St., according to Ald. Peter Braithwaite (2nd Ward). Braithwaite said the restaurant has hired approximately 75 employees so far, most of whom are Evanston residents. A date has yet to be set for the grand opening of the restaurant, which also has locations in Bronzeville and Oak Park.
“Wine Goddess” Shares Her Picks On Main
Local wine consultant and Diana Hamann opened Wine Goddess at 702 Main St. in late December. The store sells handpicked wines and beer and also offers tastings and wine classes.
Fraiche Bakery Closes On Noyes
Fraiche Bakery abruptly closed up shop at 815 Noyes St. between late December and early January. The bakery and café was beloved for its pastries, including its “cinnamon bombs” and scones, which were noted by several Chicago food writers.
Fatty’s Burgers Opens Near ETHS
The Chicago-based restaurant Fatty’s Burgers and More opened a second location at 1903 Church St. in November, according to the Daily Northwestern. Fatty’s offers standard burgers and specialties like the Unbelievable Blue Cheese Burger, The Batter-Up Bacon Burger and The Lineman Burger, a one-pound patty with extra cheese, the Daily reports.
Hevanston Gallery Hosts Grand Opening
A new art gallery recently held its grand opening at 529 Davis St. Called Hevanston Gallery, the business sells original stained glass, oil paintings, sculpture and photography by local artists, as well as historic posters, handmade clocks and tables.
