Three guesses - and the first two don't count.

Spoiler alert: Rep. Gabel did vote for Madigan. Madigan received 71 votes, vs. 46 votes for Rep Leader Tom Cross. You can see the roll call vote at page 13 of http://www.ilga.gov/house/journals/98/2013/HJ098001R.pdf.

Curiously, the narrative report of Madigan's election as speaker states that: "Representative Madigan asked to be recorded as voting for Representative Cross." (See page 6 of http://www.ilga.gov/house/journals/98/2013/HJ098001R.pdf).

So, Madigan supports his opponent and the Dems elect Madigan anyways. It is a stirring demonstration of the Party's independence from Madigan. I guess they showed him!

Get ready for more of the same from Springfield in 2013. They've kicked off the year with an inspiring start: the state's credit rating has already took a hit on account of the failure to do anything real about the pension crisis. imagine now the Dept. of Professional Regulation with one person to process every physician application for a new license and renewal every 3 years. It will take a year to get a license and to boot the price is going from $300 to $700. Hospitals and physician groups will not be able to function. Now I know the pols have bankrupted the state but are we now going to let them take it out on us. The General Assembly members should give up their salaries and benefits. No, actually they should be ridden out of the state on rails. And of course Gabel voted for Madigan. She will want something in return and whatever that may be, it won't be good for our district or the state.

The sole activity of House Democrats is to do what Madigan tells them on any important issue. We have elected another Madigan lackey, period.
