This mosaic piece was conceptualized, designed and constructed entirely by students in grades 3-5Read Moreat Oakton School, led by visual artist Mirtes Zwierzynski from the Chicago Public Art Group. More than 150 students participated over a 2 month period. These images came out of how the children imagined the ideas of generations, growth and change, and community as we prepare to celebrate our 100th birthday. They put a great deal of time and effort into it. We love the vibrancy, sense of joy, fun and whimsy they created and are thrilled with the result! The project was made possible in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. The Oakton PTA is currently fundraising to finish paying for the mosaic and other centennial activities scheduled for next school year. If any Oakton alums or community members who support the arts would like to make a contribution, we would appreciate it! Donations can be made directly to "The Oakton Centennial Fund" and sent to the school. We hope you'll join us for our community birthday celebration on September 13, 2014!
