Bed & Breakfast Proposed on Judson

The city's site plan appearance and review committee is considering a special request permit for a B&B at 1722 Judson Ave.

A third bed and breakfast could join the two already underway from Hyatt Hotel heir Jennifer Pritzker in Evanston's Lakeshore Historic District.

Evanston resident Linda Jelinek has submitted a request for a special use permit to the city's site plan appearance and review committee for a bed and breakfast at 1722 Judson Ave. The committee meets this Wednesday, Nov. 20, to discuss the proposal, among other items.

City council members have already approved two bed and breakfasts in the neighborhood from Pritzker, one at 1622 Forest Place and the other at 300 Church St. If aldermen okay the proposal for a bed and breakfast at 1722 Judson, there will be there such properties within two blocks along the lakefront.

When Pritzker's second B&B came up for review, some neighbors complained that too many establishments in one area would fundamentally change the character of the neighborhood, preventing families from moving in.

Supporters, however, said bed and breakfasts would bring economic benefits to the community and add value to surrounding properties.

The property at 1722 Judson Ave. is a 9,500-square-foot, six bedroom single family home worth nearly $2 million, according to Zillow.
