Citizens Group Hosts Harley Clarke Meeting Wednesday

Members of No Park Sale will discuss the future of the mansion at a meeting this Wednesday.

A citizens group is holding a meeting on the Harley Clarke Mansion Wednesday night at the Civic Center.

Members of No Park Sale, a group that formed in opposition to the city's proposal to sell the mansion, will discuss the future of the mansion after city council members rejected the sale in July.

"Out of this process, we envision coming up with ideas that we all can agree on," said No Park Sale member Barbara Janes.

The meeting takes place at 7 to 9 p.m. in the Parasol Room, on the fourth floor of the Civic Center, 2100 Ridge.

Guest speaker Roula Alakiotou, restoration architect for the Berger Mansion in Chicago, will talk about her experience with the lakefront property at 6205 N. Sheridan Road. The city of Chicago now rents the mansion for weddings and other social events.

Members of the No Park Sale group will discuss their research on other restorations of historic public buildings similar to the Harley Clarke Mansion. They are also seeking input from the public on how the mansion can be repurposed to benefit the entire community.

The Central Street Neighbors Association and Southeast Evanston Association are co-hosting the event.
