Evanston Wants Your Opinion On New Parking Meters

Residents are invited to test different types of meters around the city and participate in a brief survey.

The following news release was submitted by the city of Evanston:

The City of Evanston is updating on-street parking equipment to become more environmentally and user friendly.  The new equipment choices are solar/battery powered single space parking meters and pay stations that accept both coin and credit cards, with the future alternative option of payment with the use of a cell phone.

In order to ensure that residents, businesses and visitors have input on the type of device they prefer, 50 single-space meters and two upgraded pay-and-display stations have been placed in various locations for examination and testing. For your convenience, a meter location map is provided.

Patrons are invited to take a brief survey regarding the meter technology via text message at the telephone number posted at each location (standard text message rates may apply.) Alternatively, users may take the survey by phone at 3-1-1 or online at www.cityofevanston.org/parkingsurvey.  The surveys will be open until November 5th.

Input from the general public, and area businesses regarding which technology is preferred will help determine the type of equipment that will be implemented at most locations citywide.
