Trader Joe’s Holds Grand Opening Friday

Trader Joe’s new Evanston store will open with tropical flair at 8 a.m. Friday, when Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl cuts a ceremonial lei.

Grand opening festivities will continue throughout the day Friday, including face painting for kids, music, giveaways and food demonstrations, according to a press release from Trader Joe’s spokesperson Alison Mochizuki.

Store manager Ty James, regional vice president Adam Mutolo, Ald. Melissa Wynne (3rd Ward) and Northwestern University senior vice president Eugene Sunshine will also be on hand for the ribbon cutting, along with members of the newly hired Trader Joe’s staff.

Customers will find the usual Trader Joe’s items inside the 13,000-square-foot store, as well as some unique Evanston-themed murals featuring local landmarks such as the Charles Gates Dawes House, Dempster Street Beach, the Northwestern campus and the Grosse Pointe Lighthouse, according to Mochizuki. 

When it opens Friday, the Evanston store will be among the California-based chain’s more than 390 stores in 35 states.
