CPD Gets One Right - First Degree Murder and a Hate Crime for ay Fight

An avoidable confrontation ended in a deliberate homicide.

CPD arrested a real piece of garbage in connection with a street altercation in Rogers Park yesterday which resulted in the type of outcome that could have been easily avoided. A glance, racial epithets and a fight....resulted in the death of an individual. The way it happened caused one party to be charged with first degree murder and a hate crime. Its the right result and the balance of the story is here.

The story illustrates the precise type of situation where stepping away could have ended this situation very easily before it escalated. There are extenuating circumstances which lead to the murder in a fist fight. However, it has all of the features of a situation where we stress to potential concealed carry permit holders that avoidance and evasion is ALWAYS the first choice relative to the use of deadly force. Its also a situation that had a firearm been present its very likely that the person with the firearm [assuming it was legal, etc] would have been arrested and charged with a crime if it was deployed. A firearm certainly isn't the answer in every situation, its unfortunate that this one ended badly.

They need to make sure that the suspect here gets denied bail and never sees another day of freedom in his remaining natural life.
