First CCW Permit Holder Arrested In Chicago

We knew it was going to happen and sure enough....a Chicago man with a valid FCCL permit drew his pistol during an argument...and he got arrested and had his permit revoked. You can read about it here. I certainly have made my views known with respect to the ability of an individual to obtain a concealed carry permit. My expectation, and I would hope that all of the other FCCL Instructors I know feel the same way. A CCW permit is a very serious matter, and if an individual isn't responsible enough to have one and control their firearm and their temper, they shouldn't have a license.

The individual described in the license clearly violated the law and was promptly arrested, charges with aggravated unlawful use of a firearm and has had his carry permit revoked by the Illinois State Police. A permit is revoked at the time a person is arrested and CHARGED with a crime that could result in revocation. If he is later found innocent, the permit can be reinstated. However, in this case, if the individual had done what is asserted in the article he should not get the permit back, and actually ought go to jail. A concealed carry permit doesn't make a person a police officer, or grant them special powers, and if they can't handle the responsibility, they should not have the permit.

The police did the right thing in this situation. Its interesting that I am sharing the story ahead of Patch but go figure.
