ISP Procedure For Private Firearm Transfers after January 1

The Illinois State Police ["ISP"] released the procedure which is required for a private citizen to transfer a firearm to another private citizen effective January 1, 2014 [the procedure applies where a transaction does not go through a licensed Federal Firearms Dealer]. The transferor is required to call the ISP at 217 524-3847 during normal business hours. They will be issued an approval number which is good for thirty days. Once the approval number is issued, the transferor can transfer after waiting the required 24 hours for long guns and 72 hours for handguns. You can read the full notice here
