Starbucks and Firearm Policy

Its unfortunate that the process of seeing Illinois become acclimatized to a new concealed carry statute has caused the issue to become a contentious issue in many threads here. Rather than continue a firearm related discussion on a thread that was intended to be a zoning related thread...I will continue the discussion here. The background history of Starbucks is rather complicated. Initially, Starbucks permitted open carry of firearms in many of its stores. After a substantial amount of shrill protest by the gun grabbers Starbucks moved to a policy that requested that firearm owners not bring their guns into Starbucks facilities. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/19/business/starbucks-seeks-to-keep-guns-out-of-its-cofee-shops.html

The official Starbucks policy is NOT to ban firearms, but to respectfully request that firearm owners not bring their guns into the stores....http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/sep/21/gun-owners-surrender-starbucks-understand-firearms/?...

The official Starbucks policy can be seen here.

As such, it will be very interesting to see if the proposed Starbucks actually posts a No Guns Sign as required by the Illinois FCCL if a property owner wishes to restrict firearms within a property. I would bet that they won't post a sign. Whether they do or they don't those of us that choose to exercise our 2A right to carry a concealed firearm can make a choice with regard to whether to patronize the store or not. At least personally, if a business won't respect my right to carry a firearm where there is a choice [as distinguished from a mandatory prohibition like a court house or a school] I would make the affirmative choice to respect their wishes.

The reactions of some people that don't approve of concealed carry has been interesting. There are some people that don't understand the simple fact that the 2A isn't going away or going to be changed in our lifetimes. Concealed carry is not the law in Illinois. The City of Chicago has lost on handgun ownership in Heller, the ability to prohibit shooting ranges in Ezeall, and the ability to prohibit retail firearms dealers in Illinois Association of Firearms Dealers vs. Chicago. The result of these cases is that it is likely that there will be both a retail gun dealer and a shooting range in Evanston sooner than later.

I have had some civil exchanges with people that don't agree...and some have been downright trolls...special mention to an individual that knows what I think of him.
