What Would A Concealed Carry Rig Look Like

There have been a number of photos and comments which cause concern as it isn't precisely clear if everyone knows what a concealed carry handgun would look like. LET ME BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR...IT IS NOT PERMISSIBLE YET IN COOK COUNTY TO CONCEALED CARRY A HANDGUN AND ANYONE THAT DOES SO BEFORE THE LAW IS SIGNED, THE PROCEDURE IS IN PLACE, THEY HAVE THE TRAINING AND LICENSE WILL PROBABLY GO TO JAIL.

Having said that, the photo below illustrates a Colt Defender which is a Colt 1911 style pistol in .45 ACP with a three inch barrel. The holster is a Milt Sparks VM-2. The holster is something called an inside the waistband ["IWB"]  holster, as it sits inside the waistband of the pants. It has two loops that attach to a belt. When the firearm is in the holster it is secured by both the form fitted holster and pressure from the belt. The wearer would typically wear a jacket or a long shirt that would entirely cover the firearm and the holster..hence the term concealed carry.

At no time, other than an emergent situation which required the use of the firearm should any portion of it be visible to anyone else. The act of deliberately showing the firearm is called brandishing and should result in a disorderly conduct arrest of the person carrying. There is also a detailed list of places where carrying a concealed firearm will be illegal, I have perviously posted it and will repost in a comment to this article. Where carry is prohibited [with the exception of a nuclear facility], the owner has a legal safe harbor by securing the firearm in locked container or console of a vehicle be it a car or a motorcycle.

I would hope this helps to remove some of the mystery and emphasize that responsible licensed carry permit holders will have proper training and a sense of how to exercise this right responsibly.
