FEATURING A PERFORMANCE BY GUEST TROMBONIST

JOHN FEDCHOCK

January 1, 2014

The 11th Annual Evanston Township High School (ETHS) Jazz Festival welcomes world-class trombone soloist, heralded bandleader, and Grammy-nominated arranger John Fedchock, who will headline an evening performance in the school’s main auditorium on February 8, 2014.

Fedchock is an in-demand performer and writer in New York City. For more than twenty years, his multifaceted talents have led him to become one of New York City’s premiere jazz artists. He will perform with Jeremy Kahn on piano, Larry Kohut on bass and Bob Rummage on drums.

The critically acclaimed John Fedchock New York Big Band has become a marquee group, showcasing Fedchock's trombone and arranging as well as the band's all-star soloists. Fedchock has toured with T.S. Monk, Gerry Mulligan's Concert Jazz Band, Louie Bellson's Big Band, the Bob Belden Ensemble, the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and has performed at jazz festivals and concert halls around the world. As a solo artist, he appears throughout the United States and has toured abroad as a guest trombonist/composer/conductor. For more information about John Fedchock, visit his website: www.johnfedchock.com.

The evening performance begins at 7 p.m. with a set from ETHS’s own Jazz Ensemble, and will be held in the ETHS auditorium, 1600 Dodge Avenue in Evanston. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for children, students with I.D., and

seniors. All seats are reserved. Call (847) 424-7848 or visit www.ethsjazz.com to order tickets online.

The ETHS Jazz Festival is an all-day event focusing on educating high school and middle school jazz students and showcasing their talents. The festival attracts more than 400 student musicians from school bands around the Midwest. Past festivals have drawn school bands from as far away as Winnipeg, Canada. Last year more than 45 bands and combos from nearly 20 schools participated in the event.

The Festival is open to the public and offers a full day of non-competitive, educational workshops and performances by middle school and high school jazz groups. Each band or combo has the opportunity to perform and then receives both live and recorded feedback and coaching from two expert judges. Other activities include a variety of workshops, clinics, and master classes offered by jazz musicians and educators.

“The Festival is a wonderful opportunity for students to perform publicly, learn from professional jazz artists and gain appreciation for the talents of others at all levels,” says Mike Lehman, co-director of bands at ETHS and the Festival’s director. “We are pleased to bring students together from many different communities and provide them with constructive feedback from dedicated, proven jazz professionals,” he adds.
