Amita Khandekar Named President of The Auxiliary of NorthShore University HealthSystem

The Auxiliary of NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) proudly announces the appointment of Amita Khandekar as president of the 275-volunteer organization. A longtime Auxiliary member and supporter of NorthShore, Khandekar has held several positions within the organization since joining in 1975. Throughout her tenure, she served on many Auxiliary committees and held several leadership roles, including Gala Co-Chair and Nursing Scholarship Committee Chair.   

 

 “We are thrilled to welcome Amita as the Auxiliary’s President this year and have confidence she will successfully lead the organization’s fund- and friendraising efforts,” said Kate Beckering, Senior Director of Auxiliaries & Events at NorthShore. “Amita’s longstanding commitment to NorthShore and leadership within the community will allow The Auxiliary to flourish under her direction.”

Khandekar’s penchant for healthcare and helping others made The Auxiliary an ideal outlet for her philanthropic and volunteer efforts. Before joining The Auxiliary, Khandekar graduated from nursing school in Indore, India. After graduation, she moved to the United States with her husband Janardan D. Khandekar, MD, Director, Center for Molecular Medicine at NorthShore, and worked at the infectious disease lab at Allegheny General Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1975 she moved to Evanston and continued her career in healthcare at NorthShore Evanston Hospital where she worked as a clinical researcher until 2005. Upon moving to Evanston, Khandekar joined The Auxiliary and has played a vital role in the organization’s success ever since.
