ATTORNEY JERRY ESRIG KICKS OFF CAMPAIGN FOR 9TH JUDICIAL SUBCIRCUIT AT SEPTEMBER 24TH RECEPTION

Over 100 supporters gathered on Tuesday, September 24 at Prairie Moon in Evanston to help attorney and Evanston resident Jerry Esrig launch his campaign for election to the office of Cook County Judge in the 9th Subcircuit.  Honorary co-chairs for the event were The Honorable Abner Mikva and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky.  Esrig spoke to the crowd of supporters, which included:  Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin, Illinois State Representative Robyn Gabel, Director of Illinois Health and Family Services Julie Hamos, 6th Ward Alderman Mark Tendam, and 8th Ward Alderman Ann Rainey.

           

“I am running for judge because I care deeply about maintaining an independent judiciary of impeccable integrity and the highest judicial ability,” Esrig stated.  “I believe that the courts are the bedrock of our democratic system and that smart, experienced and fair judges are critically important, not only to the litigants before them, but also to our functioning democracy.”

In his endorsement of Jerry Esrig, Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin stated, “Jerry is one of the most exceptional candidates for judge that we have had in the 9th Subcircuit.”

Esrig has worked as a trial lawyer in Chicago for over 30 years, representing small and medium-sized businesses in commercial disputes and profoundly injured individuals.  In 1984, he co-founded the firm of Zaideman & Esrig, P.C. which became Epstein, Zaideman & Esrig in 1985.  The firm once again became known as Zaideman & Esrig, P.C. in 1999 when partner Jim Epstein was appointed and then elected to the bench. 

 

Jerry Esrig was born in Chicago in 1953 and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern University in 1974.   While a student at Northwestern, Esrig joined Abner Mikva’s congressional campaigns and also worked on Mikva’s congressional staff before starting law school.  He received his law degree from the University of Chicago School of Law in 1978 and was an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University Law School and also taught for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.   Esrig and his wife Deborah Thorne live in Evanston and have two adult children, Daniel and Rachel.
