On Thursday, September 19, the North Shore Women’s Platform Tennis League (NSWPTL) hosted the 16th annual Court the Cure fundraiser. Nearly 300 players participated in the Platform Tennis themed fundraising fete at15 clubs across the Chicagoland area, including Bannockburn, Evanston, Exmoor, Glenview Club, Hinsdale Golf Club, Salt Creek, Indian Hill, Knollwood,  Lakeshore Country Club,  Michigan Shores, Northmoor, Sunset Ridge, Skokie, Salt Creek, Tennaqua, Valley Lo, Westmoreland, Winnetka, and Glenview Prairie Park District. Thanks to the generous support of the Court the Cure players and sponsors, the event raised more than $20,000 for leading-edge breast cancer research at NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore).

All proceeds from the fundraiser will specifically support the breast research fellowship led by Katharine Yao, MD, Director of the Breast Surgical Program at NorthShore. The research fellow will work on a project that examines DNA sequences of second breast tumors in an effort to understand why patients have recurrences. This dynamic research being conducted at NorthShore will help to ensure early and more effective treatments for many generations to come.
