Evanston Assault Weapons Ban Proposal

I will be speaking in opposition of the assault weapons ban at Mondays (June 24th) council meeting. I hope to have the company of any progun citizens of Evanston.
Jordan S. Zoot June 21, 2013 at 09:23 AM
Great..nice to see someone else with the right views.
Jordan S. Zoot June 21, 2013 at 06:45 PM
I too have reached out and with some luck we should have 200+pro-2A people at the meeting to let the gun grabbers know that our rights won't be infringed.
Dan Cox June 21, 2013 at 10:25 PM
The funny thing is that these Homerule Communities have been led down the Briar Path... Chicago v. Wilson, was not upheld as these people have been told, it has been returned to the lower Court to PROCEED. The Illinois Supreme Court found that the lower court, failed to prove that "Assault Weapons" are not protected by the 2nd Amendment. HELLO...I will be there to support my fellow Brothers and Sisters in Arms!

Hey guys, what do you think if this brave heckler? http://www.buzzfeed.com/mckaycoppins/after-hecklers-shout-down-father-of-shooting-victim-republic
Jordan S. Zoot June 23, 2013 at 04:27 PM
I don't have any problem with it at all.....given the filthy spew from the gun grabbers...it can be difficult to keep it civil....we shall see how it goes tomorrow night...there should be a very substantial pro-2A crowd.....hopefully it stays civil...but if it doesn't oh well.

A friend told me about this article from the Rockford Register Star, I think you may find it interesting. "Larry Morrissey wants concealed carry permit" By Kevin Haas http://www.rrstar.com/blogs/kevinhaas/x1220218269/Larry-Morrissey-will-pack-a-gun-once-concealed-carry-is-law#axzz2X4kpTcok

Lisa-is this video a council meeting? I would hope both sides will be able to speak without interruption. This isn't a third world community or country. I as a progun citizen will be courteous to any oppositions. I hope other progunners will do the same.
Lisa S. June 23, 2013 at 05:21 PM
I'm glad you plan to be civil Todd, but apparently Jordan has no problem with attacks on grieving parents who are merely trying to speak. Research shows that gun owners are less civil than non-gun owners so the type of behavior shown in the video are not that rare. Myth #3: An armed society is a polite society. Fact-check: Drivers who carry guns are 44% more likely than unarmed drivers to make obscene gestures at other motorists, and 77% more likely to follow them aggressively. • Among Texans convicted of serious crimes, those with concealed-handgun licenses were sentenced for threatening someone with a firearm 4.8 times more than those without. • In states with Stand Your Ground and other laws making it easier to shoot in self-defense, those policies have been linked to a 7 to 10% increase in homicides.
Lisa S. June 23, 2013 at 05:24 PM
The facts above are from Mother Jones 10 pro-gun myths - a good read with solid research http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/01/pro-gun-myths-fact-check. There is no doubt that pro-gunners are interested in shutting up the opposition - even prohibiting the CDC from collecting data on gun violence. Why so scared of research?
Jordan S. Zoot June 23, 2013 at 05:57 PM
Mother Jones is certainly a biased source that is about as credible as Bloomberg and MAIG..and before hysterical Lisa puts words in my mouth...I certainly don't like what the guy in the red shirt was yelling in the video but am just as disgusted by the guy parading the corpose of his daughter in the debate...........what I said was I am willing to toss back whatever is thrown at me.
Lisa S. June 23, 2013 at 06:00 PM
"parading her corpse"? Do you even hear yourself?
Jordan S. Zoot June 23, 2013 at 06:03 PM
That is what he was doing...just like Obummer was doing by bringing parents of the children from Sandy Hook to the White House during the Senate vote.....parading their dead....its called exploitation to achieve a result and its disgusting.
Todd Kennedy June 23, 2013 at 06:08 PM
Thomas- Thank you for the link. Its nice to see a mayor support citizens gun rights and not jump on a "political bandwagon."
Jordan S. Zoot June 23, 2013 at 06:16 PM
Todd.....I don't think the same thing is going to happen in Evanston.......this Mayor and City Council are going go vote like liberal lemmings and we are going to wind up in court....we will be lucky to get any type of grandfathering for currently owned firearms.....all I can say is Molon Labe
Todd Kennedy June 23, 2013 at 09:14 PM
Lisa- Where and what organization has done research that shows gun owners are less cvil than non-gun owners? Do you have a link? This post is about the Evanston assault weapons ban not guns in general. I think you are on the wrong post. I did not state I am scared of research. I could care less about any study being done by the CDC or any other organization. I know that I have a right to defend myself and my family and you nor a politician can tell me how to do so. I find it odd that women are for any firearm bans or against guns in general. Men cause most of the evil in this world and most men are generally stronger than women physically, especially the ones that intend to inflict harm. It would make common sense that as a woman you would choose a weapon to protect yourself that would equalize a defensive situation. Going back to the assault weapons ban and that video you posted. I don't mind having Sandy Hook or Aurora, CO theatre victims speak out about their opposition to firearms. What bothers me is that they are blaming an object rather than the person that committed the crime. Do not make me look like an evil person because I own gun.
Todd Kennedy June 23, 2013 at 09:15 PM
Lisa- I will look at your Mother Jones link more closely when I have time. I have not seen this before. Thank you.
Dan Cox June 23, 2013 at 10:38 PM
I see that we can all get non sense info; and emotional speakers, but...U.S. v. Miller, 1939 SCOTUS Case. Reaffirmed that the term "Arms", in the Second Amendmend is defined as "Ordinary Military Weapons" So by that definition, I can possess Machineguns and RPG's. It would be best to not press the issue on the ownership of simple Semi-Automatic Rifles. We can have a lot more firepower, If we take this Case: Wilson v. Chicago to SCOTUS. Any village that wants to be included in the lawsuit are welcome to donate their tax dollars to the NRA, when the Case is won and the Ban is struck down, just like the handgun Ban was struck down in McDonald
Jordan S. Zoot June 23, 2013 at 10:45 PM
Dan....you are not on point with this.....first I am sure you are aware of the NFA of 1934, and the Hughes Act of 1986.....keep carefully in mind that Illinois has banned SBS's, machine guns and suppressors since 1934.....it is only since Jan 1, 2013 that an Illinois resident can own an SBR IF they have a C&R FFL.......stick to semi-automatic everything else is already illegal in Illinois...the forum is truly limited to the items described in the model AWB legislation.
Jordan S. Zoot June 23, 2013 at 10:45 PM
Further....the Blair Holt Cook County AWB only applies to semi-automatic rifles.....the state prohibition applies to everything else.
Paul Nebenzahl June 25, 2013 at 01:12 AM
My comments were taken off this page - Mr. Zoot, you are wrong about the need for assault weapons in Evanston. That's the LAST thing we need. Take your business elsewhere, we don't need gun freaks in our town.
Jordan S. Zoot June 25, 2013 at 08:30 AM
Mr. Nebenzahl...actually the LAST thing we need is people launching personal attacks under the guise of comments....the angry nature of your comments lead me to question your mental stability.
Paul Nebenzahl June 25, 2013 at 09:12 AM
Mr. Zoot get a grip baby, you and your gun freak stuff scares me and lots of other people. This is NOT personal, until you made it so. Why would you even want to live in the people's republic of evanston with such a big chip on your shoulder, and your unending acronyms relating to guns? This is a peace loving town baby, and I've been here for over 50 years. Your freaky gun stuff won't scare me off - so let's get personal. You have posted threatening messages on this page for weeks now, and the threat of your violence permeates your every post. I think you might need some Xanax, and maybe some therapy. Yoga might help, we have lots of that in Evanston.
Jordan S. Zoot June 25, 2013 at 10:03 AM
Paul....the manner in which you write speaks volumes about your lack of mental stability. I am hopeful that with proper treatment you may overcome your fear of acronyms.....perhaps you might then contribute a post that actually addresses the subject under discussion. Perhaps that is my expecting too much. The sole topic which might reasonably be construed as a threat is the willingness to litigate with the City of Evanston if they pass an AWB and that is no secret, as a copy of the complaint contemplated for such litigation was shared with every member of the City Council. The goal being to encourage them to spend wisely and allocate resources for enhanced neighborhood law enforcement rather than having to spend it defending litigation that they have a substantial likelihood of losing. So...why don't you learn something about the NFA with its prohibition on the ownership of MGs, SBS's , AOW's and DD'sand what the Illinois Legislature did to permit an FFL C&R to own an SBR.......perhaps I could offer a bowl of alphabet soup [you can't taste the alprazolam [which is the proper name for Xanex in case you didn't know] if it is in soup.
Paul Nebenzahl June 25, 2013 at 10:22 PM
Thanks Zoot but ill continue to talk my issues over with my fellow citizens, sans firearms...
Jordan S. Zoot June 25, 2013 at 10:34 PM
Paul..thank you for making me realize that there is no good reason to spend a dime in this community....time to look at pulling out as a contributor and leave it to leaches like you
Dan Cox June 25, 2013 at 10:38 PM
Paul Nebenzahi, Please explain to me, what you believe the AWB in Evanston, will do to make you safer? In less than two weeks. Pre-emption of Transportation and of all Handgun Laws will take effect, statewide, including all Homerule Communities. I will be able to carry an unloaded .223 Caliber Defensive Rifle and several fully loade 30 Round Magazines through the Downtown area of Highland Park, LEGALLY. As I should be able to because I am a Valid FOID Card holder, a law abidding citizen and I do not live in HP. That gives me more Rights than an HP resident is afforded, because their City...disarmed them!
Todd Kennedy June 25, 2013 at 11:09 PM
Paul- I assure you Jordan is not a freak. I met him last night and he has no physical deformities I could see. He has 2 legs, 2 eyes, no extra head growing somewhere. He is a very nice guy.
Todd Kennedy June 25, 2013 at 11:15 PM
Paul- It looks like the peoples republic of Evanston is turning into the communist party of Evanston. I dub thee- Commiston!! Joking of course. I have no problem with protectionists speaking their mind on here. Yes, we will probably leave if this ban takes affect, but not before a good fight.
Todd Kennedy June 25, 2013 at 11:17 PM
Jan! I haven not forgotten about good old Mother Jones! Due time baby, in due time!
