The YWCA Evanston/North Shore has worked for over six decades to foster gender, racial and economic equity. The bar foundation grant will support the organization’s Legal Advocacy for the Survivors of Domestic Violence project. Serving over 500 clients each year, YWCA Court Advocates guide clients through the process of securing a civil order of protection under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act and supports clients through the lengthy legal process, which can involve time spent in juvenile, criminal, civil, probate, and/or domestic violence court. The organization helps each client create a personal safety plan and receives on-going, potentially life-saving information and referral resources.
