Evanston Resident to Receive Board of Governors Award from Illinois State Bar Association

Warren Lupel, a resident of Evanston, an attorney at the law firm of Much Shelist, in Chicago, will receive the 2013 Board of Governors Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) at the organization’s 137th Annual Meeting on Friday, June 21, at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The award is given to ISBA members for significant service to the profession and the public.

Lupel is receiving the award for his exemplary work as co-chair of the ISBA’s Special Committee on Judicial Disqualification Standards, according to outgoing ISBA President John E. Thies, of Urbana. Thies created the special committee during his term as president in response to increasing public and professional attention to campaign contributions in judicial elections and the perception that such contributions may influence judicial decision making. An ISBA report will be voted on by the ISBA’s policy-making Assembly when it convenes on June 22.
