EVANSTON WILMETTE GOLF COURSE TO HOST CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT HONORING FIRST RESPONDERS

The Evanston Wilmette Community Golf Course Association is pleased to announce that the course has been selected as the venue to host the Tour of Duty Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday, Aug. 12.

In announcing the event, Perry Weinberg of Evanston, president of the golf association board, said, “We are thrilled to be the host course for this very special event that will recognize the contributions of first responders and members of the military who are on the front lines saving lives every day.”

The Tour of Duty Golf Classic will honor first responders and military, including those representing Newtown, New York City and Boston Acting as team captains will be celebrities from the entertainment and sports worlds who will partner with first responders and sponsors of the event.  Some 125 golfers will participate in the classic.

Long active in charitable efforts, Wilmette native and actor Joel Murray will serve as the honorary host for the event. Murray selected the course because he and his brothers have wonderful memories of their days growing up around the course and working at the Snack Shop.  In addition to the golf event, Tour of Duty has planned two full days of activities to raise funds and honor first responders and military in and around Chicago.  Neighbor and golf course board member Todd Ricketts was instrumental in helping make this tournament a reality for the course.

The Tour of Duty Foundation is a recognized  charitable organization that works to promote recognition of first responders and raises funds for charities that serve these heroes. Tour of Duty began after 9/11 as a joint effort in partnership with first responders in Australia.
