Grocers to replace Evanston's Dominicks

I truly hope this idea gets discussed. Whole Foods is quite expensive. Who can petition Ultra Foods, Treasure Islands, or another Aldi's to come the to Dempster and Dodge location and/or the Greenbay Rd location.

Treasure Island is fantastic. They are reasonable priced and have a large assortment of ethnic foods to choose from that we really don't already posses in our current options.

A large sperm whale was found dead due to Aldi dumping their plastic waste into the ocean. Do not have Aldi occupy any spaces that where Dominick's stores!

Dempster/Dodge Mall would be good location for another Aldi. Hope they open another one their.

Something needs to be done with the Dodge/Dempster area. It's has a lot of dead space. Losing Dominick's made it worse. Putting another Aldi is in that location is not financially feasible considering there is one two miles away. If I were the developer of that mall, I would really consider a new design concept, market what the area really needs. Add more entertainment, Michaels craft store, more upscale restaurants including Mom and Pop style. Grab ideas from our surrounding suburbs. Make it cozy instead of an eye sore. We really need to think outside the box. I would love to be part of the planning committee on this one.

What about Meijer? They seem to be moving into the area outside of Chicago. We do need something substantial in the Dempster/Dodge area--not another Whole Foods!

Meijer is building a store in BUSINESS FRIENDLY SKOKIE.

I would live to see Meijers occupy the spaces at Dodge and on Greenbay where Dominick's used to be. This store is awesome. Great products, organic options and reasonable prices. I love the idea of inviting a Michaels craft store to Dodge & Dempster too

Another idea would be a Cabelas at Dempster/Dodge. It would certainly be convenient to be able to purchase ammunition and firearms without having to go all the way out to Hoffman Estates. There really isn't anything closer, and besides that there isn't a decent large sporting goods store anywhere near Evanston. The Green Bay location for a Whole Foods is a good idea.......given the Food For Less on Main/McCormick, and the Aldi on Oakton is another low end grocery store really what is needed, or wouldn't a full service make more sense. But, S got it right.....Skokie IS BUSINESS friendly which is why the good stuff is going there.

Apologies up front for long post, but here goes. The majority of people I speak with/read comments from see need for another grocery store. Me too. BUT: 1) Please not Aldi or Whole Foods. They are two extremes, & we need something in the middle, decent quality at affordable price. Aldi is VERY poor quality. Crummy produce, off brands & mostly unhealthy, low quality options on packaged goods. And WF is very high priced, totally not affordable as a primary grocery store unless you are upper middle class or better--certainly not the majority of folks who live in the surrounding neighborhood. Not to mention close proximity of their other 2 Evanston stores--there's just not enough business to be had for WF to make 3 stores profitable in this town, esp. at that location. 2) COSTCO would be a good option: Wide selection of decent fresh food, name brand groceries & other merchandise @affordable prices; large footprint would rent out a lot of the vacant space; anchor store that would draw business to the rest of the mall. TREASURE ISLAND: Also a good option, & currently the only one for miles around that I know of is their tiny store in Wilmette. I'm not familiar w/ Meijer, but if decent quality that would be ok. 3) CRAFT STORE: There used to be a Frank's Nursery & Crafts store in that mall for years. Don't know if a new store of same type would thrive, given that the last one went out of business. 4) I'm sure the criminals would like the guns & ammo store idea. 5) OTHER OPTIONS: Agree that decent, reasonably priced casual RESTAURANTS (but *NOT* unhealthy & cruddy fast food chains) would be much appreciated. And a STARBUCKS would definitely be profitable--Dance Center Evanston staff, students & families alone would support one. Dance parents bring kids for 1-1.5 hr. classes & have nowhere the least bit appealing nearby to hang out while waiting for pickup (Dunkin' D's NOT a viable alternative). Many parents used to use that time to run to the Dominicks, 'nuf said. Ok then. I hope someone of influence on this issue is listening.

@E your forgot to mention Food4Less, Trader Joes and Gordon Foods. Costco charges to shop in there Stores (you also must of had a memory lapse or would have said) ONCE AGAIN AS I'VE PREVIOUSLY MEIJER IS BUILDING A STORE IN BUSINESS FRIENDLY SKOKIE.( probably in a couple other articles) What about Mariano's do they get your approval.
