Evanston, IL (March 2014) Interfaith Action of Evanston believes we are all called to be of service to our fellow human beings. Indeed, every faith tradition recognizes the value of selfless service to lift ourselves and others to higher, more meaningful and joyful lives.

Interfaith Action expresses devotion to service by providing food, shelter and other services to our hungry and homeless neighbors. This event will expand and share fresh perspectives on service, exploring why and how diverse faith and philosophies honor the sacred practice of service. Join us as Interfaith Action presents its Spring Gathering “Devotion for a Path of service,” Monday at 7p.m., May 12, 2014 at Fisher Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 944 Elmwood Avenue, Evanston, Ill. 60202

“The Spring Gathering is a wonderful opportunity to revitalize our energies around service by learning how different faith traditions regard it,” says Rev. Kurt Condra, Senior Minister, Unity on the North Shore, Evanston.

Members of six faith communities will speak about service in their faith traditions, and share stories. The program will explore how devotions, as in personal practices or prayer, and devotion, as in solemnly dedicating oneself to a cause are related to each other. Live music performances and other forms of expression will expand and embellish the topic. Also, insights will be shared from last year's “Unity Weekend”, an Evanston-based interfaith activity of community service, prayer and reflection, involving more than 530 volunteers.

The theme of service goes to the heart of Interfaith Action's mission and activities, which include providing meals, warming centers, a daytime Hospitality Center for the Homeless, employment assistance and other services to the hungry and homeless in the Evanston area.
