Judge Jerry Esrig Receives Chicago Tribune Endorsement for Circuit Court Judge in the 9th Subcircuit

Judge Jerry Esrig has received the endorsement of the editorial board at the Chicago Tribune in his bid to retain his seat as a Circuit Court Judge in the 9th Subcircuit.  In its endorsement, the newspaper praised Judge Esrig’s “legal skills, the scope of his experience and his professionalism.”  The Chicago Tribune joins the Honorable Abner Mikva, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen, Cook County Clerk David Orr, and many other state and local officials in endorsing Judge Esrig

As a sitting judge, bar associations evaluated Judge Esrig very thoroughly and his ratings reflect the respect he has earned while serving as an experienced trial lawyer and as a circuit court judge since October 2013.  Judge Esrig leads as the candidate with the highest bar association ratings from the Chicago Council of Lawyers who praised him “for his litigation skills, as well as for his professionalism and integrity.”  Judge Esrig also received the organization’s highest ratings from the Chicago Bar Association (“Highly Qualified”) and the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (“Recommended”).

Judge Jerry Esrig worked as a trial lawyer in Chicago for over 30 years, until he was appointed by Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Jane Theis in October of 2013 to fill a judicial vacancy in Cook County’s 9th Subircuit.  During his legal career, he represented small and medium-sized businesses in commercial disputes and profoundly injured individuals.  In 1984, he co-founded the firm of Zaideman & Esrig, P.C. which became Epstein, Zaideman & Esrig in 1985.  The firm once again became known as Zaideman & Esrig, P.C. in 1999 when partner Jim Epstein was appointed and then elected to the bench.

Judge Esrig earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern University and a law degree from the University of Chicago School of Law.  He was an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University Law School and also taught for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.  Judge Esrig and his wife Deborah Thorne live in Evanston where they raised their two adult children, Daniel and Rachel.
