North End Mothers’ Club ETHS Scholarship Recipients Honored

Guests of honor at the June 5 North End Mothers’ Club annual Scholarship Tea were the 2014 recipients of the four scholarships sponsored by the Club. Tyler Dixon is the 64th recipient of the Senior Girls Honor Award. Tyler is a serious and independent student who is committed to academic excellence. She was awarded the Spanish Academic achievement Award and the Math Academic Excellence Award. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Tyler was also involved in a diverse group of community service activities including the Y. O. U. Peace Garden, Race against Hate and Connections for the Homeless Food pantry.  She also volunteered at Rice Center. Tyler is a member of the Evanston Scholars Program. She will major in Communications and Sociology at Hampton College.

The Joanne Murphy Trautwein Music scholarship was awarded to Lauren Jones. She was a four-year member of the ETHS Choir and sang in the vocal groups Dazzling Dames and Bazao A Capella. Lauren performed extensively in lead roles in school musicals through out her high school career. Lauren was co-leader of The Women’s Empowerment Group at ETHS. She will study Vocal Performance and Music Education at either Milikin University or Illinois Wesleyan.

The two STEM scholarships were awarded to Molly Linder and Ilise Rosen. Molly, the recipient of the Science Departments awards for excellent achievement, has combined a rigorous curriculum in math, science and graphic design to pursue her goal of becoming a biomedical engineer with a focus on mechanics. She will major in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California.

Ilise took classes in the national Project Lead the Way pre-engineering program and completed an independent study project in the area of electrical engineering. She has also completed several internships relating to electrical engineering. Ilise plans to pursue a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois.
