Presence Saint Francis Hospital Keystone Founders Honors Janis Atkinson, M.D., for Philanthropic Accomplishments

The Presence Saint Francis HospitalKeystone Founders Society honored Janis Atkinson, M.D, chairperson of the hospital’s Department of Pathology and medical director of the laboratory, with the 2013 Keystone Founders Award for her philanthropic commitment at their annual Keystone Founders Society Dinner at the Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette.

A member of the Keystone Founders Society since 1996, Dr. Atkinson was instrumental in raising the funds to renovate the hospital auditorium as well as bringing in an aquarium to help relax cancer patients before their treatment.

“We can help provide funds to support the mission and deliver on our promise to provide quality care to everyone, independent of their ability to afford it,” Atkinson said. “Presence Saint Francis Hospital has a longstanding tradition to support philanthropy, and I am honored to be a part of its legacy.”

In addition to serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Presence Health Foundation, the Presence Saint Francis Hospital Development Council and the Keystone Founders Society Steering Committee, Dr. Atkinson has been on the Presence Saint Francis Hospital medical staff since 1992 and works as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Illinois.

Over the past 30 years, the Keystone Founders Society has raised $2.5 million towards needs not addressed in Presence Saint Francis Hospital’s operating budget. The Society committed to raising $150,000 by the end of 2013.

The Keystone Founders Society of Saint Francis Hospital is comprised of friends, physicians and patients who have made a significant commitment to support the hospital’s ministry with annual gifts of $1,000 or more. Established in 1974, generous support from donors has provided the latest in life-saving medical technologies, innovative patient care, and opportunities for medical professionals to develop their skills.
