Harris was a second- team All-Big Ten pick by both the coaches and the media in 2001 and 2000.   A native of Dixmoor, IL, he was a first round  pick of the Oakland Raiders.   After retiring from professional football, he turned to the Chicagoland area and became a businessman.  In 2012 he declared for the Illinois State Senate, beat out two opponents and ran unopposed for the 15th District.   His area includes parts of Cook and Will counties, as well as the 9th ward of Chicago.
