The Kiwanis Club of Evanston concluded its 2013-14 school year Student Athlete Awards bringing Maalik Todd and Kate Pingry to the Celtic Knot restaurant for ceremonies honoring outstanding student athletes from Evanston Township High School.
First begun in 2007 under the guidance of Director of Athletics and Kiwanis member, Chris Livatino, over 150 student athletes have been honored by the club with the Ted Van Zelst award.. Named for a most successful Evanston businessman, inventor, art collector and advocate for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Van Zelst’s career and passion for youth are celebrated with this award.

Maalik has lettered in football and track and field. He is currently ranked in the top ten in the long jump in Illinois and is expected to compete in the upcoming state meet. Pingry captains the Girls Lacrosse team and also is a member of the Dance Team. She will attend the University of South Carolina and plans to study nursing. Marty Fenn was unable to attend the event due to an AP test. He is a member of the baseball team and also competed on the school golf team which finished 7th in the state.
