Team Evanston U14 boys win National Presidents Cup in Soccer
Team Evanston's U14 boys Premier team won the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup on July 13th, beating Montgomery Arsenal from the Philadelphia area on penalty kicks. US Youth Soccer is the largest youth soccer association in the US, with over 3 million members.
The Team Evanston U14 team earned the right to compete by winning the Regional President's Cup, where they went 4-0 and outscored their opponents 15-0. At Nationals, they had two ties and a win to put them into the championship game. In it, both teams went scoreless through regular time and two 10-minute overtimes, forcing the game into PKs. Team Evanston's Simon Jillson forced two misses and smothered a fourth, while Nathan Pollack, Deniz Gundogdu, and Jonathon Meneses all buried their shots to secure the win. "I thought the entire defending line played very well," said Issac Moushi, the team's coach, "and Mateo Blair and Issac Diop were key players at controlling the midfield. Jonathan Meneses created many chances up front, including scoring the only goal in our third game to advance us into the championship game on Sunday."
