The Douglas Center Receives Highest Rating from The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)

Skokie, IL -- The Douglas Center has once again received the highest rating (3 years) from The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Equally noteworthy is that since its inception, The Douglas Center has continued to earn CARF’s highest rating. 

CARF is an independent, non-profit organization focused on advancing the quality of services used in the industry for the best possible outcomes. CARF provides accreditation services at the request of health and human services providers. CARF’s accreditation signals a provider’s commitment to continually improving services, encouraging feedback and serving the community. 

As part of the accreditation process, the CARF survey team interviews current funders, parents, guardians, board members and staff of the organization. Upon completion, the organization receives CARF’s decision along with their findings report. “The Douglas Center is complimented for expanding services to persons with disabilities in these difficult economic times marked by unsure funding from the State of Illinois”, states the CARF report. “The production area offers work experiences for the participants that accommodate a wide range of abilities and skills via quality contracts that provide income and opportunities to improve work skills. The organization is complimented for providing a wide array of special programs to enhance the workday of the participants including pet therapy, dance therapy, creative arts, jewelry making, drama, drumming, horticulture and beginning computer classes. 

The Douglas Center provides day programs for individuals with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities. The center offers pre-vocational skills and work training, Supported Employment, “Art from the Heart” Creations program, “Young at Heart” Seniors program as well as developmental rehabilitation for adults of all ages. The Douglas Center opened its doors in 1999. Today, they provide a home away from home for 135 hard working and dedicated individuals. The center’s clinical services, training programs, employment opportunities and Senior’s program enhance the lives of their clients and assist them in reaching their maximum potential.
