During this special event, Midwest Young Artists will honor world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma with the 2014 Golden Baton Award. Ma is currently fufilling his role as the Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra after being appointed by Riccardo Muti in 2009. He provides musical leadership and guidance for the CSOA's Institute for Learning, Access and Training and the CSO's Citizen Musician initiative. MYA is choosing to honor Yo-Yo Ma for his continual search for new ways to communicate with audiences, artistic growth and renewal, and connections that stimulate the imagination.
The evening will begin with live music performances by MYA ensembles, passed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, and a raffle and wine pull with fabulous prizes. It will be followed by an elegant three-course dinner, more live musical performances, and a presentation that will include Yo-Yo Ma accepting the 2014 Golden Baton Award.
