Central Street Sidewalk Sale Brings Deals Thursday

Evanston's Central Street businesses sell merchandise outside at discounted prices from Thursday to Sunday.

As the temperatures rise through the weekend, Central Street businesses will move out to the street, offering dining, deals and entertainment at the annual Central Street Sidewalk Sale.

Approximately 20 Central Street Business Association participants will line the street between Hartrey Avenue to just east of Green Bay Road for the sale Thursday through Sunday.

“It’s a chance to give back to our community through special sales and deals,” said Rachel Hershinow, sidewalk sale committee chair and owner of participating business Stella Boutique. “We hope to get everyone out participating and supporting the businesses they love.”

The sidewalk sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Not all participants will join the sale on Sunday. Check the website for a list of participating businesses.

The sale includes shops selling clothing, stationary, gifts, dog treats, toys, dance apparel, flowers and more. The Central Street Sidewalk Sale will also provide a yoga studio demonstration, information tables for Central Street service businesses and grilling by Foodstuffs.

“It becomes much more than just a retail sale event,” said Todd Ruppenthal, a member of the Central Street Business Association, whose dog bakery, Happy Husky Bakery, will sell at the event.

It is a family friendly event, according to Ruppenthal. There will be strolling entertainment such as a musician, a singing duo and a mime clown.
