City Holds 'Community Dialogue on Race' Today

The first in a series of community discussions takes place Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Civic Center.

The city hosts the first in a series of "Community Dialogues on Race" Thursday evening at the .

Billed as an open, constructive forum for residents to share their thoughts on race, the first community dialogue will take the format of multiple discussion groups, according to a press release from the city.

“Evanston continues to be a very diverse community and it is this diversity that helps define us as such a wonderful community in which to live, work and play,” Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said in the release. “It is my hope that these dialogues will go even further to enhance our community and the understanding of the myriad of unique people who make it whole.”

The first dialogue is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, in the fourth floor Parasol Room of the Civic Center. Residents who wished to attend may RSVP at www.cityofevanston.org/dialogue or by calling 847-448-8296.

Two more dialogues are tentatively scheduled for Oct. 25 and Jan. 24, 2013.
