Evanston 2013 Fourth of July Fireworks, Parade Schedule

See where to go to celebrate Independence Day around Evanston this year.

Evanston is partnering with the Evanston 4th of July Association to bring expanded activities for this year’s Independence Day celebration.

July 4 Schedule

12:45 p.m. - Half-mile Kids Fun Run, at Ackerman Park. Event is for children 12 years old or younger. A $10 registration fee includes a t-shirt to the first 300 kids registered plus finish line refreshments. Proceeds benefit the Fourth of July Association. Register online here>>> or on race day at Ackerman Park from noon to 12:30 p.m. This event is part of the "Let's Move! Race Series."

2 p.m. -  Parade kicks off on Central Street at Central Park Avenue and will travel east to Ryan Field at Ashland Avenue. Lawn chairs may be placed along the Central Street parade route starting 6 a.m. on July 1 in accordance with the city ordinance.

7:30 p.m. - The Palatine Concert Band will perform at Dawes Park.

9:15 p.m. - Lakefront fireworks start with a Musical Extravaganza. Tune your radio to 90.5 FM.

Games Around the City

Events run from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the following locations:

  • Kamen Park-east, South Blvd. & Asbury Ave.
  • Baker Park, Forest Ave. & Keeney St.
  • Raymond Park, Chicago Ave. & Lake St.
  • Elks Park, Callan Ave. and Mulford St..
  • ML King Lab School, 2424 Lake St.
  • Fleetwood-Jourdain Center,1655 Foster St. (roller skating only & refreshments)

Events run from 9 a.m. to noon at the following locations:

  • Lincolnwood School, 2600 Colfax St.
  • Willard School, 2700 Hurd Ave.
  • Robert Crown Center, 1701 Main St.

City Holiday Schedule

The following locations will be closed:

  • Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center will be closed July 4-7.
  • All Evanston Public Library facilities will be closed July 4-5.
  • The Chandler-Newberger Center, Ecology Center and the Noyes Cultural Arts Centers will be closed July 4.
  • The Levy Senior Center will be closed July 4-5.
  • The City of Evanston summer food program will not be held on July 4.

The following locations will be open: 

  • The Evanston 3-1-1 Call Center will be open July 4 with the extended hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Call Center will be open on July 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fleetwood-Jourdain Center and Robert Crown Center are sites for family activities the morning of July 4, but the offices will be closed.

Waste and recycling schedule:

July 4 - No solid waste, recycling or yard waste pick-ups. Solid waste and yard waste, picked up by Groot, will be one day later this week. Recycling crews will double up their routes and Thursday's collections will be picked up Friday.
