Evanston Remembers Dajae Coleman During DaeDaeWorld Weekend

Dajae, 14, was killed a year ago in a case of mistaken identity. His mother organized a weekend of events to honor his memory and empower other young people.

It's been a year since Dajae Coleman, a 14-year-old freshman at Evanston Township High School, was gunned down and killed in what police say was a case of mistaken identity.

This weekend, his mother, Tiffany Rice, organized a series of events to remember her son and empower other young people in the community.

Rice started the Dajae Coleman Foundation, which organized the weekend. A post on the foundation's Facebook page Sunday stated: "Amazing is an understatement when describing DaeDaeWorld Weekend. Our First Annual DaeDaeWorld Weekend was a huge success. DC3F appreciates all who came out to volunteer and support the weekend that celebrated the life of such a beautiful spirit, Dajae Coleman."

Others took to social media to remember their friend and talk about the impact his death had on Evanston. A sampling of some of those statements from Twitter, Facebook and Instagram is above.
