Frugal Family: St. Patrick’s Day

Looking to save some money on this St. Patrick's Day? Check out these five deals.

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, Koi is offering special green menu items, such as Vegetable Dumplings, Edamame, and Green Tea Ice Cream.  The restaurant is also featuring drink specials at the bar like $3 Sapporo Drafts and Sake Bombs.  If you’re busy on St. Patrick’s Day, Koi is offering other specials year-round.  If you order online, you will receive a $10 gift certificate that may be used for dine-in only.  And the restaurant offers half price bottles of wine on Mondays and Tuesdays, and half price signature martinis on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

This Thursday, Mar. 17, the Whole Foods Market located in downtown Evanston on the intersection of Church St. and Chicago Ave. is giving away green recycled tote bags in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.  The first 50 customers to sign up for the market’s newsletter on Thursday will receive the bag.  But the offer gets better. 20 of these tote bags will contain a $5 Whole Foods Market gift cards.  Bring the tote back with you during your next grocery runs and you’ll save 10 cents on each purchase.

Nevin’s Pub in Evanston is known for its special events.  To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the bar is hosting pipers, bands, and dancers.  Stop on by, grab a Guinness beer, and listen to some live music Mar. 17.  Already have plans on St. Patrick’s Day?  The pub offers a frequent diners discount of 25% every Monday for those who come for dinner with friends.  And every Tuesday, Nevin’s hosts trivia night, beginning at 8 p.m.   

Bat 17

Known for its sandwiches and full bar, Bat 17 offers drink specials every night of the week.  The bar features wine specials every Monday, serving glasses of Mezzacorona Chardonnay, Pinto Grigio, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon for $4.95.  On Wednesdays, the pub offers Bud Light, Coors Light, and Miller Lite bottles for $2.50.  All day and night on Saturdays the pub features a Martini Special, Goose Cosmo, Batini, Raspberry Martini, Appletini, Hot & Dry Dirty Martini, and Chocolate Martini costing $4.95 per drink.  Finish your week off on Sundays with Bloody Mary Sunday, featuring Bloody Mary’s for only $3.50 each.
